The Challenge:

The Pixie team is looking for a business-focused data scientist to organize, manage and interpret the data flowing from our rapidly growing subscription and transactional e-commerce business into actionable insights. In this role, you will own data for the company, analyzing data from various sources and extracting insights to guide business decisions for multiple departments, including marketing, product and business operations. This role reports directly to Pixie's Chief Data Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth analysis of company’s business data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as subscriber growth, LTV and retention
  • Distill complex data and relationships into clear, concise charts and visualizations, both manually in Excel/Sheets for ad hoc needs and in visualization tools for more regular reports
  • Develop management reports and dashboards for stakeholders across all business functions: marketing, product, technology, operations
  • Contribute insight to strategic and tactical decisions that impact our ability to optimize business operations through data, including the analytics configurations in our marketing channels/media, CRM and product experience
  • Provide insights into our customer base, including thoughtful analysis by cohort (e.g., tenure, segment, geography, marketing channel)
  • Ability to query and extract needed data directly using SQL and process unstructured data into a form suitable for analysis
  • Contribute towards our analytics engineering codebase and be an active participant within the team of building the best data science workflow

This role is a new addition to Pixie's Business Analytics team. The team is full of creative, high-performing, good-natured talent. Pixie’s leaders collaborate closely with this team and lean into the insights they provide.

Pixie is a remote-first company and the team is geographically distributed with a few opportunities for in-person connections each year. They collaborate virtually via Slack and Zoom and never miss a beat.  



What You Bring to the Table

  • 5+ years experience in data/analytics role, preferably a subscription/SaaS business  
  • Strong understanding of data structures, query languages, and methodologies for maximizing the value of datasets
  • Excellent analytical and modeling skills including advanced proficiency in SQL and Excel
  • Excellent data visualization skills using popular tools (e.g., Tableau)
  • Strong analytical mindset that translates to superior data gathering, cleansing, transforming and modeling
  • Strong communications skills, including the abilities to translate complex customer data into meaningful insights and deliver business recommendations to key stakeholders, including senior executives
  • Deep understanding of optimization processes (e.g. A/B testing) and experimental design (e.g. identifying the variables, treatment structures, etc.)
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple ongoing projects, with minimal oversight, support, and defined process
  • Ability to identify and implement data improvements, including new tools, software, and other associated programs that can streamline our data environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Statistical background including model building experience a significant plus
